Every hear of the Albatwitch? How about the Headless Horseman of Kinderhook? Columbia is filled with ghost stories – resulting from many historic events, including underground railroad escapes and trolley crashes. Christopher Vera, of the Columbia Historical Preservation Society, will share “Ghosts of Columbia” on Monday evening, October 3, at 6 PM. Come out if you dare! Light refreshments available.
There’s only one thing harder than getting into college and that is paying for it! The staff of College Admissions HQ are here to help you out. They will be presenting an orientation program on choosing the right college for you – as well as getting the best financial package possible. The orientation will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 6 PM. Call 717-424-2096 for more info.
The Lancaster County Office of Aging APPRISE program is offering a meeting for Medicare beneficiaries here at the library on Wednesday, October 5, from 6 to 7:30 PM. Come out and learn what changes you can make with your drug and Advantage plans during the Annual Enrollment Period. This is NOT a time to meet one-on-one or compare the plans – it is simply to provide information about what is available for 2017. Individual meetings will happen DURING the Open Enrollment period.

Three runaway pets – a brave elderly Labrador retriever, a mischievous bull terrier and a sassy Siamese cat set out through the Canadian wilderness, risking starvation, exposure and wild animal attack, to make their way home to their loving owners, who are missing them terribly. Rated G, live action. You are welcome to bring non-messy snacks and drinks with a lid. Wednesday, October 12, at 6 PM
Our Young Adult Book Club has been reading “Everything Everything” for our October meeting. Madeline, the narrator, is quite literally allergic to the world. The only two people she has been in contact with in seventeen is her mom and her nurse. When Olly moves in next door and they catch sight of each other through the window, Madeline knows her world is about to drastically change. Groups will meet on Wednesday, October 19, at 1:50 PM (middle school) and 2:45 PM (high school). Remember: this program is held at the CHS library!
After a September cancellation due to family matters, Cortni O’Hara plans to begin her “Knit and Chat” session on Saturday, October 15, from 1 to 3:45 PM. This is a drop in; all new knitters need to bring is themselves. Experienced knitters may bring their current project. Cortni will have additional instructors to help her and to ensure that each beginner will receive adequate one-on-one instruction.
We have done some previous work with Career Link, but now, with the new Columbia Life Network growing, we would like to give Career Link a fresh start. Many people, myself included, do not know ALL the things that Career Link can provide for job seekers! Since our September Job Fairs went so well on Thursdays, we’ve decided to have a Career Link “overview” session – to see everything that Career Link can provide! Date is Thursday, October 20, at 11 AM…with time for questions afterwards. If you know a job hunter, be sure to pass the word along!
On October 27, we will be closing at 6 PM for the Mardi Gras Parade.
