 Buildings of the World Scavenger Hunt     Find pictures of famous landmarks at Columbia Businesses!  Pictures will be labeled “Build a Better World!”  Get entry form at the library beginning June 1.

Monday Morning Pre-School Pals discontinues over the summer, so that preschool pals and their caregivers may attend Summer Reading Programs listed here.

 Wednesday Family Movie Nights will be discontinued over the summer due to library construction.  Be sure to enjoy Columbia Borough’s “Movies Under the Stars” shown at various locations in the borough.  Visit www.columbiapa.net for details.

Morning Summer Reading events held in Park Elementary School Cafeteria or Gymnasium. Meet 10AM at the library & we’ll walk over together or meet us at the playground equipment at Park School Back entrance.  Every Monday and Tuesday morning beginning June 12 and ending August 15.

 “Elephant and Piggie” – celebrate the end of school with Mo Willem’s beloved characters.  Make you own Elephant or Piggie paper bag puppet.  Be sure to bring your camera.  Monday, June 12, at 1 PM (note time change!) Family

 “Hank the Health Hero: the Quest to Vanquish Germs” – you know all about taking good care of your teeth with Hank from the CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health Center.  Hank joins us this year to avenge war on GERMS – those pesky invisible organisms which spread colds without you even knowing it.  Hank will show you easy ways to stop the spread of germs and enjoy being a healthier you!  Tuesday, June 13, at 10 AMFamily

 “Phredd” McNaughton – Family entertainer “Phredd” from WJTL. Dad of EIGHT, WJTL Radio Personality, & Ukulele Singer Songwriter.  Best known for “The Coffee Song”, “My Mom is a Pirate” and “Elmer’s Electric Tricycle”.   Held at LOCUST STREET PARK GAZEBO.  Monday, June 19 at 10:00 AM (Family)

 “Bugging a Better World” with Ryan Bridge, the Bug Guy.  This year, the Bug Guy will be focusing on the incredible ways insects improve our planet – by providing clean water, pollination, food for animals and even their unusual defense strategies. This unique, 1-hour program will offer everyone a close look into the crazy world of insects. Expect incredible displays and lots of neat facts about insects and their related friends. And, yes, there will be LIVE Bugs – as always!  Tuesday, June 20, at 10 AM.  Family

 “Build a Better World” with Miss Maggie Sings!  Learn about the scientific method with Miss Maggie as shows she us ways we can all build a better world!  Held at LOCUST STREET PARK GAZEBO.  Monday, June 26, at 10 AMFamily

 “Ferris Wheel Fun” with LEGO Bricks – First designed for the World’s Expo in Chicago in 1893, the Ferris Wheel is still a favorite at amusement parks around the world. Children learn through imagination and problem- solving, and discuss the giant axle that powered the original ride. We will find out what happened to the original Ferris Wheel, and then build our own version of the famous ride!  Tuesday, June 27, at 10 AM.  Ages 4 and older.

Library closed on Tuesday, July 4.  No programs on Monday the 3rd or Tuesday the 4th.  Happy Independence Day!

 The Princess of Dutch Wonderland – calling all lords and ladies!  Your presence is requested to meet Her Royal Highness the Princess of Dutch Wonderland on Thursday, July 6 at 10 AM.  You may wear your own princess attire, if you wish.  Thursday, July 6, at 10 AM.  (note date change) Ages 2 through 11.

 Chracter Juggler Chris Ivey!  You loved him last year – and he is back!  A truly epic show which combines juggling, comedy, art, audience interaction, choreography, music, and astounding special effects to create one fantastic entertainment experience.  Chris has performed at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the Baltimore Inner Harbor. “Dinosaur Dig” with paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka.  Dig for real dinosaur fossils and construct or build a dinosaur with the findings! Program includes a fossil talk and highlights some of Mike and Roberta’s amazing discoveries. This “hands-on” program is special because everyone will handle REAL dinosaur fossil bones. Construct a dinosaur dig site right in Park School!  Tuesday, July 11, at 10 AM.  Family- maximum of 50 children, plus adults.

“Magician John Andrews”   They may seem to contradict each other, but science and magic go hand in hand! Monday, July 17, at 10 AM.  (Family)

 “Build a Better World Within Your Biome” with Jesse Rothacker and Forgotten Friends Reptiles.  An interactive animal show featuring Jesse Rothacker and his lovable lizards, turtles, alligators, and snakes. A biome is a large area of the earth that is home to many plants and animals. Children at this show will discover how each animal is equipped to build a better world within their biome. Then we’ll empower every child in the audience to use their own talents and abilities to build a better world within their homes, schools, and communities, and to unleash their abilities through the power of reading!  Tuesday, July 18, at 10 AM Family

 Fire Safety with the Columbia Borough Fire Department – One of Lancaster County’s oldest fire companies tells about fire prevention & fire safety tips. See fire truck equipment & apparatus, what a firefighter looks like in 70 lbs. of gear & meet Sparky, the Fire Safety Dog!  Children receive packet & helmet. Monday, July 24, at 10 AM (Family)

“Silly Safari” with the Giggle Magic gang – Put on your safari hats, adjust your binoculars, and get ready to go on a Silly Safari! Oh, my- has Debra the Zebra lost her stripes? Will Ellie the Elephant’s disappearing act be good enough to get her on America’s Got Talent? There goes Gerry the Giraffe, he’s standing on his head…again! Have the animals GONE WILD?  Enjoy magic, slapstick comedy, and lots of giggles – and don’t forget the Kidz Rock Dance Party! Tuesday, July 25, at 10 AMFamily

“The Lorax” with Mary Ann Schlegel, Lancaster County Parks.  Come share the wonderful (and important) story of The Lorax.  Dig into what Dr. Seuss was trying to teach with this amazingly creative and meaningful story.  Together we will hang thneeds in a Truffula Tree and talk about what we can do to stop pollution.  Each participant will create their own Lorax or Oncelor paper bag puppet.  Tuesday, August 1, at 10 AM.  Family

Red Rose Search and Rescue K-9 Unit Meet Al Means & his amazing bloodhounds: Heather and Reuben – and the newest member of their hound family, Chip!  Columbia Borough Police Department – We wrap up the Summer Reading year with an important message – drugs are dangerous!  Our friendly officers will share what you should do when someone offers you a drug – and how some drugs can help us, while others are very harmful.  Children learn that police are our friends and have a chance to see a police officer’s duty belt equipment.  Sit behind the wheel and see what’s inside one of Columbia Borough’s cruisers!  Tuesday, August 15, at 10 AM (Family)
