Cake Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Supplies: Large bowl, mixing spoon, measuring cups and spoons, cupcake liners, cupcake pan

Choose a Frosting:

  • Marshmallow Buttercream Frosting: ¾ cup unsalted butter (softened), 7 oz. container marshmallow cream ,1 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Supplies: Electric mixer (with bowl), spoon, measuring cups and spoons
  • Peppermint Whipped Cream Frosting: whipped cream, crushed candy canes
  • Optional toppings on either frosting: marshmallows, chocolate chips, crushed or whole mini candy canes
